Who runs this site
Food Emperor (foodemperor.com) is run by Once Upon a Brand AB, org. nr 559056-5601, Hammarby Allé 3 B, 120 32 Stockholm, Sweden. We are responsible (the "controller") for the personal data described here. Questions about it go to theemperor@foodemperor.com.
The short version
You can read every recipe without an account, a login or a newsletter. The site counts its readers in a way that can't identify you. Google Analytics only runs with your OK if you're in the EU/EEA, the UK or Switzerland. The site shows no ads, and we don't sell anything about you.
What we collect, and why
Our own visitor count
Each page view sends our server a small note: which page, which website sent you here, and your screen width. From that we keep daily totals per page, referring website, country, device type, language, browser family (like "Firefox") and network provider (like "Telia"). To tell a new reader from a returning one on the same day, your IP address is combined with a secret key and the date and scrambled (hashed). The address itself is never stored, the scrambled value changes every day, and it is deleted after 40 days. No cookies are used for this. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing which recipes get read (GDPR art. 6.1 f).
Google Analytics
If you allow it, Google Analytics sets cookies and tells Google how you use the site: pages viewed, how you got here, your device and browser, and your approximate location from a shortened IP address. Google Ireland Limited processes this for us; data may be transferred to the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. It is kept for at most 14 months. Advertising features are switched off. In the EU/EEA, the UK and Switzerland it only runs after you say yes (GDPR art. 6.1 a); elsewhere it runs by default, and you can switch it off the same way.
Server logs
The site runs on Amazon Web Services in Stockholm and is delivered through Amazon CloudFront, which sends you the pages from a location near you. Like any web server, ours logs requests (IP address, time, page, browser) for security and troubleshooting. The logs are deleted after 10 days. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site safe and working (art. 6.1 f).
If you email us, we keep your message and address for as long as we need to answer and follow up. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in replying to you (art. 6.1 f).
Cookies and your browser's storage
- _ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics): count visits, up to 2 years. Only set with your consent where consent is required.
- fe-consent (stored in your browser, not a cookie): remembers your cookie choice for 12 months.
That's all. To change your mind, use Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; saying no also deletes the Google Analytics cookies.
Content from other companies
- Videos: the recipe videos are on YouTube. Their preview images load from Google's servers when a page opens, so Google sees your IP address. The player itself only loads when you press play, in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and from then on Google's privacy policy applies.
- The map: the map page loads its map images from OpenStreetMap (OpenStreetMap Foundation, UK), which sees your IP address.
- The shop: the merch is sold by Spreadshirt. Buying happens on their site under their privacy policy; we never see your payment details.
- Social media: the links to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and X are plain links. Nothing from them loads until you click.
The fonts are served from our own server, not from Google Fonts.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see the personal data we have about you, have it corrected or deleted, restrict or object to how we use it, and get a copy to take elsewhere. You can withdraw a consent at any time; that doesn't affect what happened before. Email theemperor@foodemperor.com. Our own visitor count can't be linked to a person, so there is no "your data" to find in it.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
Changes
This page describes the site as it works today. If that changes, for example if we start showing ads, this page will say so first, the date at the top will change, and where the law requires it the site will ask for your consent again before anything new runs.
